Energy Clearing Miniseries #11

Wake up your Energetic Sense of Smell
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In yesterday’s Energy Clearing miniseries #10, we went over how smells powerfully move and influence our energy.

Of all the energetic senses, smell is probably the least intuitive for us to grasp. We have very little language to describe smells. Outside of comparing to more familiar smells, we have few tools to share our experiences with smells.

An object can be tall or short or round or red or blue.

A sound can be loud or soft or rhythmic or melodic or low or high.

A taste can be sweet or sour or bland or bitter.

A texture can be soft or hard or smooth or scratchy. It can be cool or warm.

But what about a smell…?

So in today’s edition of the miniseries, instead of introducing another energy clearing technique, we’re get an easy starting point to awakening our energetic sense of smell. This will make yesterday’s technique more effective.

In Chinese Medicine and philosophy, 5 Element/Phase theory categorizes different qualities of energies. Each quality has different emotions, colors, sounds, tastes, textures, and smells associated with them.

This gives us an excellent starting point for awakening our energetic sense of smell with a couple of very easy exercises.

Exercise 1
Rub your palms together as if they were cold and you’re trying to warm them up. Once they feel warm, cup your palms around your nose and take a deep, slow inhale.

What do you smell? If you don’t smell anything at first, rub your palms again and take another breath. Keep doing this until you notice something and you can say that smells like…?

You’ll find that it smells smokey or like something is burning. Why would our palms smell this way? We didn’t generate enough heat to burn our skin – nothing is actually burning.

Our palms are major centers for Heart meridian energy and the Fire element. We can powerfully release Fire energy through our palms. Because of this, it is easier to detect the Fire energy there through our energetic sense of smell.

Exercise 2:
Wipe off/rinse your feet off. Don’t use any soaps or other substances as they have smells even if they aren’t scented.

Rub the bottom of one foot with your palm and warm it up. Then gently sniff your foot. What does it smell like? Keep doing this until you can describe a smell.

Now rub the top of your foot and warm it up. Gently sniff it. What does it smell like?

Depening on the particular state of your energy, you will have smelled one of the below or a blend of both.

Our feet are our major connectors to the Earth and the Earth element flows strongly in them. Because of this, our feet energetically smell very earthy.

When we smelled the bottoms of our feet, the smell of Earth energy may have been overpowered by Water energy. On the bottom of our feet is the starting point of the Kidney meridian and a major gateway for Water element energy.

You may have detected the smell of dampness or earthiness during this exercise. Most likely a blend of both.

Once you can detect these scents easily. Try picking up random objects and smell deeply. Notice not only their physical smell, but more subtle qualities as well.

Which element does raw beef smell like? How about a chili pepper? How about plastic?

Natural substances will be easier at first. As will things of simple elemental constitution. A pine cone will be easier to identify than an apple because it heavily embodies one element far more than any of the others.

Enjoy your blossoming energetic sense!
