Dear PLOA: I Can’t Afford That
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today’s question comes from the USA, but it is so universal that it could really have come from anywhere.

Nothing quite pushes our buttons quite like money challenges. They cause stress. They causes families to stop talking to each other. They are the major reason people get divorced.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the American Psychological Association released a report on sources of stress. The #1 item on the list…

Money.

So it’s no surprise that students of the LOA (Law of Attraction) and members of the Practical LOA family want to create more money and abundance in their lives.

In today’s Dear Practical LOA, we address one of the biggest money blocks and questions of all:

“My BURNING question is - how to get past a rock wall of 'I can't afford that'… Any clues for me ??”

Hi XXXXXX,

I'm glad you're enjoying the emails. Thanks for taking the time to write in and for your question.

The words "I can't" are one of the biggest indicators of a block in thinking and energy. There are a few approaches that we can take to start releasing that block and the frustration it causes, but here's the #1 thing I recommend:

Every time you catch yourself thinking or saying "I can't afford that," immediately say in your head "Cancel that. HOW can I afford that? What would it take for me to afford that?"

Our minds respond to our commands. When we say "I can't" our mind shut off. It goes "Ok, we're not doing that. No need to expend any resources pursuing that. Time to rest."

But if we say "How can I" and "What would it take," our minds are activated.

Instead of shutting off, our minds begin actively searching for solutions. We may not come up with one immediately, but the flow is turned on and we will unconsciously absorb and sort all relevant information until one day the answer comes.

I would start consciously practice and start with small things first. Here's an example:

Decide that you're going to go out for a nice dinner next weekend. If/When the words "I can't afford that" pop into your mind, say to yourself "Cancel that." Then ask "How can I afford that? What would it take for me to go our for a nice dinner next weekend?"

Keep asking yourself throughout the day. If no answer comes by the next morning, ask yourself "What will I do today that will allow me to have a nice dinner next weekend? What would it take?" Let the ideas come.

There will be a flow of ideas that come to you. When you ask what would it take, your mind starts to plan. Well, a nice dinner would cost $20. Or $50. Or $100. (Depending on how nice you're thinking).

The old habit of "I can't afford that" will probably pop up. Say "Cancel that. How could I afford that? What would it take?" Ideas will come for how you can get an extra $20 this week.

If they don't, ask yourself "What will I do today/this week to get an extra $20? What would it take to have a nice dinner next weekend."

And you know what, maybe the answer isn't even getting more money. Maybe you're guided to call an old friend you haven't seen in a while... and that friend offers to take you out to dinner.

When we unblock our energy, all sorts of amazing things happen.

If dinner isn't your thing, or seems too large, do it for something even smaller. Lunch or even a packet of gum when you're at the grocery store.

To summarize:
  • Catch yourself every time you say "I can't" and say "Cancel that. How can I? What would it take?”

  • Practice doing it by choosing something small you'd enjoy and would say "I can't afford that" to. Decide that you're going to do it next week and say "How can I afford that. What would it take?"

  • Ask yourself "What will I do today" that will lead to the thing you chose

  • Keep on practicing until your habit is to ask "How can I" every time and the words "I can't" are removed from your daily vocabulary

May you never be stuck by the words “I can’t” again!
