Money Miniseries Bonus 2

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One Raise Every 9.3 Months
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A while back I conducted a survey to find out if they story of how I averaged one promotion every 9.3 months during my career would be helpful to you.

An overwhelming 94.3% of you said yes.

Since then, I’ve struggled with how to tell the story. My initial attempts were way too long. A couple seemed less helpful and more self-aggrandizing.

The purpose in sharing was really to show how the principles that I shared in the Money Miniseries, especially the principle of the Tao of Flowing Money, could be used to get results in real life.

So rather than “tell the story,” I finally decided the clearest and most concise way to share would be to list the principles that I used with the actual action I took.

Here we go!

At the beginning, I did what most people do to try to increase their flow of money: increase the time, effort, or skills that I put into my job. I worked extra hours (over 120 hours per week at one point). I worked harder on the job, outperforming others. I considered going back to school and getting certain licenses to increase my skills.

While those things helped somewhat to get me noticed, it wasn’t until I started acting on the principles below that I began to get promotions and increases in compensation.

The actions in the table are highly specific to the position that I held, but they show how I put the principles into action. If you find the examples too detailed to follow, skip the table below and see how I summarize the principles.

As you can see, there are only a few basic principles that cause dramatic results. Careful examination also reveals a few ways to use these principles:

Questions to ask for getting a new position:
What can I offer to the world so that others express their appreciation for me?
What about me is worth appreciating?
What can I do that others would appreciate me for?

Questions to ask for to gain a promotion within the same/similar job description:
What are the most pressing problems in my department or group?
How can I alleviate those problems?
Where are we spending the most time that I could help free up?
What can I do that will be very valuable to my group or my boss?

Questions to ask to gain a promotion to a different job description:
What can I do that will be very valuable to my group or my boss?
What can I do that will be very valuable to the group or boss that I want to work for?
What are the things that an X does every day?
Out of those things, what can I do every day?

Principle to act on at every single stage:
Do more than you are paid for, and soon you will be paid more for what you do

By doing more than what your job description demands, your job description will naturally expand to fit the things you do. Once it expands enough, your title and/or your compensation will increase.

May you use this knowledge for your own rapid rise!
